Dr. Felts requires each patient to attend a live seminar or to take the on line seminar (passing with a minimum grade of 75) prior a consultation with him. This is to ensure that you have a basic understanding of obesity, medical and surgical options for treatment as well as the different surgical options and the benefits and risks of each. After completing your seminar, our Insurance Coordinator will verify your insurance and call you to let you know what your insurance requires. To qualify for Bariatric surgery you will need to be 18 years or older with a BMI of 35-40, (with at least one co-morbidity such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea or diabetes) or a BMI of 40 or greater. Dr. Felts requires all patients to have a Psychological evaluation and a Nutrition evaluation. Insurance companies may require up to 6 months of weight loss visits.
Our receptionist will make call to make your first consultation appointment with Dr. Felts where he will assist you in deciding what procedure best fits your lifestyle and medical needs. Our patient coordinator will assist you to set up all your evaluations and any weight loss visits your insurance may require.
Education empowers you to take control of your life before and after your surgical procedure. Dr. Felts requires each patient to go on line and take a short education course called Emmi. In addition, we provide an office based education class and provide you with an education book. During the class we will review our education book which includes your pre-op and post-operative care as well as your diet and exercise needs to assist you with the knowledge you need to sustain your weight loss long term.
